Expanding Holistic Child Development in Asia

There are an estimated 170 million children living in poverty in the 29 countries where Compassion operates our holistic child development program — including 7 countries in Asia — and we are only able to serve 2.3 million of them right now. That means that Compassion’s efforts are only touching about 1% of the need.

50 million

people live on less than $3.65 per day in the seven Asian countries where Compassion works.

50%

of all children under 5 who are impacted by stunting live in Asia.

>50%

of all human trafficking victims come from the Asia-Pacific region.

Reaching the Next Million Together

Over the next five years, God has placed a bold vision in our hearts to expand hope for the 2.3 million children currently in our care and to one million new children living in poverty, with at least 260,000 of those children in Asia. This ministry growth will take place in the countries where Compassion already works, targeting the most vulnerable children in neighborhoods of extreme need — where our holistic child development model can make the greatest difference possible.

Cross-Border Outreach in Myanmar

More than one million children are estimated to be facing extreme hardship in the border area between Myanmar and Thailand. Infrastructure in the area is extremely lacking, including inadequate schools, safe water and sanitation, food access, and medical care. Children in the area are at extreme risk of domestic violence, human trafficking and forced child labor. It’s a truly dire situation for young people, and there is an overwhelming need for interventions to protect them and secure a path to a safer, better future.

In recent years, Compassion has been successful in piloting a cross-border program that leverages our established local church network in Thailand to reach children in Myanmar with holistic child development services. The need to expand this work is urgent, and it is clear that God is calling us to reach more of these vulnerable children with hope.

Over the next five years, Compassion is committed to reaching at least 100,000 children in this cross-border region between Myanmar and Thailand. But we need your help to make this vision a reality. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Christ to these children and families in their time of great need.
